Work on the new
San Juan Road Interchange will shift traffic
on Highway 101, between Dunbarton Road and Cole Road to the other side of the
highway beginning January 20. The work will also temporarily close access to
and from San Juan Road at Highway 101.
The lane switch and road closure will
occur between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday, January 20 and Tuesday, January 21.
Motorists should detour to San Miguel
Canyon Road.
Traffic on both
northbound and southbound Highway 101, and San Juan Road will be affected;
detour signs will indicate the closure and the shift of the traffic to the
opposite side of the highway through the construction area.
The traffic
crossover and temporary road closure is necessary to allow crews to install
temporary concrete barriers for work on the center divider.
The San
Juan Road Interchange Project will improve safety and reduce congestion on U.S.
Highway 101 between Dunbarton Road in Monterey County and Cole Road in San
Benito County. The $69 million project will remove three major at-grade
intersections (San Juan Road, Dunbarton Road, and Cole Road) and replace them
with a new interchange near the Red Barn at San Juan Road and U.S.101. The
project is supported by $10 million from the Recovery Act and $28 million from
Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved bond. In total, nearly $15 billion in
Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.
