Road and lane closures: June 2 - June 9


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, June 2, through Sunday, June 9, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  June 2  – June 7
  • Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 am to 5 pm Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7
  • There WILL be NIGHT ROADWORK starting Sunday, June 2 through Thursday, June 6 (Friday 7am) from 9 pm to 7 am
  • There will be NO OVERNIGHT FULL closures next week
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork.

Highway 1 through Big Sur: June 3 – June 7
  • Day time shoulder work and vegetation spaying continues along the Big Sur coast between Little Sur River Bridge and Hurricane Point.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 1/ Salinas Road to Watsonville:  June 3 – June 7
  • Daytime work on Highway 1, from Salinas Road to the Santa Cruz County Line, will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 7 am and 4:00 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.

Highway 68:  June 4 – June 7
  • Sewer work on Highway 68, between David Avenue and Morse Drive, will result in lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.

Prunedale Improvement Project : June 3 – June 7
  • Overnight highway construction will result in lane closures on Hwy 101 between Boronda Road and Pesante Road.
    • Hours: 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Prunedale Improvement Project at Crazy Horse Canyon: June 3 – June 7
  • Night work continues between Mallory Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road from Monday, June 3, to Friday, June 7.
  • There will be alternating lane closures as needed between 7:30 p.a. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
  • Crews will be moving equipment and removing bridge falsework.

San Juan Road Interchange: June 3 – June 7
·         Overnight work on Hwy 101, between Dunbarton Road and Cannon Road/Rocks Road, will result in lane closures between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Blackie Road Safety Improvement Project: June 3 – June 9
·         Roadway construction continues between Borromeo Drive to approximately one mile west of Borromeo Drive going to Castroville
·         Blackie Road will be open to emergency vehicles, school buses, local residents and patrons of local businesses
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 30 minutes.



NOTE: The AIDS/Life Cycle Bicycle Ride will use portions of the state highway system in Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties next week in the following locations:

  • Sunday, June 2, the cyclists will enter Santa Cruz County on Hwy. 1 near Ano Nuevo State Reserve to Harvey West Park in the City of Santa Cruz.
  • Monday, June 3, the cyclists will use Hwy. 1 from Moss Landing and southbound Hwy. 101 in Monterey County to San Lorenzo Park in Gonzalez.
  • Tuesday, June 4, the cyclists will use Hwy. 101 near Jolon to the Paso Robles Fairgrounds in San Luis Obispo County. 
  • Wednesday, June 5, the cyclists will use Hwy. 46 West and Hwy. 1 between Cambria and Guadalupe.  The cyclists will use Highway 166 West ending at Preisker Park in Santa Barbara County.
  • Thursday, June 6, the cyclists will use State Route 135 and Hwy. 1 to Lompoc .
  • Friday, June 7, the cyclists will use Hwy’s. 246, Hwy. 1 and 101 from Lompoc to Carpinteria.

The CHP will oversee these highway closures areas.  Caltrans reminds motorists to be aware of these cyclists and any support vehicles.
