Road and lane closures for June 9 - 16

Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, June 9, through Sunday, June 16, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 Closure at Pitkins Curve Bridge And Rockshed: June 10
  • Hwy 1 at Pitkins Curve will be fully closed from midnight on Sunday, June 9, until 6 am on Monday, June 10.
  • The full six-hour early morning closure is necessary to remove a temporary working platform near the rockshed.
  • Motorists should detour to Hwy. 68, U.S. Hwy. 101 to either Nacimiento-Fergusson Road or Hwy. 46

Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  June 9  – June 14
  • Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 am to 5 pm Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14
  • There WILL be NIGHT ROADWORK starting Sunday, June 9 through Thursday, June 13 (Friday 7am) from 9 pm to 7 am
  • There will be NO OVERNIGHT FULL closures next week
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork.

Highway 1 through Big Sur: June 11 – June 14
  • Day time shoulder work and vegetation spaying continues along the Big Sur coast between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 1 pavement work through Big Sur: June 10 – June 14
  • Caltrans will conduct pavement and guardrail work at the following locations.
    • Ventana Entrance to 4 miles south;
    • Little Sur River Bridge to Hurricane Point;
    • Garrapata Ridge Road to Garrapata Creek Bridge; and
    • Carmelite Monastery to Point Lobos St Reserve.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.


Highway 1/ Salinas Road to Watsonville:  June 11 – June 13
  • Daytime work on Highway 1, from Salinas Road to the Santa Cruz County Line, will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.

Highway 101 between Salinas and Gonzales:  June 10 – June 14
  • Daytime work on Highway 101, from Abbott St to Alta St, will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Crews will be sealing cracked pavement.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Prunedale Improvement Project Ralph Lane - Pesante Road: June 10 – June 14
  • Night work on Highway 101, between Ralph Ln and at Pesante Rd, will result in alternating lane closures (as needed) between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Prunedale Improvement Project at Crazy Horse Canyon: June 10 – June 14
  • Night work continues between Mallory Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road from Monday, June 10, to Friday, June 14.
  • There will be alternating lane closures as needed between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • There will be no left turns from Crazy Horse Canyon Rd to Highway 101 South on Monday, June 10, between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
  • Crews will be moving equipment and removing bridge falsework.

San Juan Road Interchange: June 9 – June 14
·         Overnight work on Hwy 101, between Dunbarton Road and Cannon Road/Rocks Road, will result in lane closures between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Highway 156 at Castroville Blvd:  June 9
  • Crews will repair guardrail on Highway 156 near Castroville Blvd. on Sunday, June 9, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 8 minutes.

Blackie Road Safety Improvement Project: June 10 – June 14
·         Roadway construction continues between Borromeo Drive to approximately one mile west of Borromeo Drive going to Castroville
·         Blackie Road will be open to emergency vehicles, school buses, local residents and patrons of local businesses
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 30 minutes.
