MONTEREY COUNTY – On the morning of
Wednesday, September 3, Caltrans, Granite Construction Company, and MCM
Construction, will fully open the Sala Road Interchange and southbound Highway
101 Overcrossing at Russell Road and Espinosa Road in north Salinas. The
opening marks the completion of major structural work for the Prunedale
Improvement Project, and will result in safer and more comfortable travel along
Highway 101 between Sala Road and Boronda Road in north Salinas.
Wednesday’s opening will result in southbound
Highway 101 traffic being shifted to a new alignment and new bridge over
Russell Road and Espinosa Road just west of the current highway. Since May
2013, both southbound and northbound Highway 101 traffic have shared the
northbound section of Highway 101 between Sala Road and Boronda Road. Removal
of the temporary k-rail barrier along northbound Highway 101 and installation
of the permanent striping will be completed by Tuesday, September 9.
Night
time lanes closures will be required to complete the traffic
switch and interchange
opening,
including the temporary closure of the northbound Highway 101 Sala Road
off-ramp and the southbound Highway101 Boronda exit on the night of Tuesday,
September 2.
Motorists
are advised to use extra caution and plan for additional travel time when
