ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR AUGUST 31 - SEPTEMBER 7



Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, August 31, through Sunday, September 7, 2014 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Big Sur: September 2 – September 5
  • Daytime drainage cleaning along Highway 1 between Hot Springs Creek Bridge and Fullers Point from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Big Sur: September 2 – September 5
  • Daytime tree work along Highway 1 between the Big Sur Maintenance Station and the Molera Park entrance from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Carmel Highlands: September 3 – September 5
  • Daytime striping along Highway 1 between Malpaso Creek Bridge and Point Lobos from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • There will be reversing one-way traffic control during the work.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Carmel: September 2 – September 4
  • Night time utility work along southbound Highway 1 between Stewart Place/Flanders Drive and Ocean Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: September 2 – September 5
  • Night work will result in ramp and alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 at the following locations from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • The locations are:
    • The southbound Boronda Road on-ramp and off-ramp.
    • Between Boronda Road and Ralph Lane.
    • The northbound Sala Road off-ramp.
    • Between Blackie Road/Reese Circle and Pesante Road.
    • Between Vierra Canyon Road and Tustin Road .
    • The Crazy Horse Canyon Interchange northbound and southbound on-ramps and off-ramps.  
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 198: September 2 – September 5
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 198 between the Fresno County Line and Highway 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Davis Road Class II Bike Lane Project– Salinas
  • Daytime bike lane work on Davis Road between Blanco Road and East Rossi Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
Imjin Parkway Class II Bike Lane Project
  • Daytime bike lane work on Imjin Parkway between Reservation Road and Imjin Road may result in alternating lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  •  Motorists should expect delays of approximately 5 minutes

HIGHWAY 101 SALA ROAD INTERCHANGE AND RUSSELL / ESPINOSA ROAD OVERCROSSING OPENING SEPTEMBER 3



MONTEREY COUNTY – On the morning of Wednesday, September 3, Caltrans, Granite Construction Company, and MCM Construction, will fully open the Sala Road Interchange and southbound Highway 101 Overcrossing at Russell Road and Espinosa Road in north Salinas. The opening marks the completion of major structural work for the Prunedale Improvement Project, and will result in safer and more comfortable travel along Highway 101 between Sala Road and Boronda Road in north Salinas.

Wednesday’s opening will result in southbound Highway 101 traffic being shifted to a new alignment and new bridge over Russell Road and Espinosa Road just west of the current highway. Since May 2013, both southbound and northbound Highway 101 traffic have shared the northbound section of Highway 101 between Sala Road and Boronda Road. Removal of the temporary k-rail barrier along northbound Highway 101 and installation of the permanent striping will be completed by Tuesday, September 9.

Night time lanes closures will be required to complete the traffic switch and interchange opening, including the temporary closure of the northbound Highway 101 Sala Road off-ramp and the southbound Highway101 Boronda exit on the night of Tuesday, September 2.

Motorists are advised to use extra caution and plan for additional travel time when traveling through construction zones.

Highway 1 – Big Sur: August 25 – August 28
  • Daytime drainage cleaning along Highway 1 between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Carmel: August 24 – August 29
  • Night time pavement repair along southbound Highway 1 between Stewart Place/Flanders Drive and Ocean Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 101 – Prunedale: August 27
  • Daytime road work along northbound Highway 101 between Crazy Horse Canyon Road and South Dunbarton Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: August 24 – August 29
  • Night work will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 at three locations from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • The locations are:
    • Between Boronda Road and Ralph Lane
    • Between Vierra Canyon Road and Tustin Road
    • Between Mallory Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – San Juan Road Interchange: August 24 – August 28
  • Night work on Highway 101 will cause alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Dunbarton Road and Rocks / Cannon Road from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 156 – Prunedale: August 24
  • Daytime electrical work at two locations along Highway 156 in Prunedale from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • The locations are:
    • Westbound Highway 156 at Meridian Road from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
    • Eastbound Highway 156 at Prunedale North Road from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 198: August 25 – August 29
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 198 between the Fresno County Line and Highway 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
