Road and lane closures for June 30 - July 7

Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, June 30, through Sunday, July 7, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  July 1  – July 3
  • Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 2, and from 7 am to 12 pm on Wednesday, July 3.
  • There will no daytime roadwork as from noon on July 3, through Friday, July 5, due to Independence Day.
  • There will be NO OVERNIGHT FULL closures or NIGHT ROADWORK next week.

Highway 1 at Rocky Creek has one-way signalized traffic control 24/7. Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork.
Highway 1 through Big Sur: July 1 – July 2
  • Day time work including vegetation spraying, paving, and replacing pavement markers continues along the Big Sur coast between Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Garrapata Ridge Road.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 101 Soledad:  July 1 – July 3
  • Daytime bridge work on Arroyo Seco Road at Highway 101 will result in surface street lane closures—eastbound and westbound—between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 101 Gonzales and Chualar:  July 1 – July 3
  • Daytime work on Highway 101, from Gloria Road to Hartnell Road will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Crews will be surveying, and sealing cracked pavement.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.

Highway 101 Salinas:  July 1 – July 3
  • Nighttime bridge work on Highway 101 at East Market St. will result in alternating lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Daytime bridge work on Highway 101 at Sherwood Dr. will result in alternating lane closures between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Prunedale Improvement Project – Espinosa Road: July 1 – July 3
  • Daytime work on Espinosa Road near Hwy 101 in Salinas will result in surface street lane closures (as needed) between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Prunedale Improvement Project – Ralph Lane to Pesante Road:  July 1 - 3
  • Nighttime work on Highway 101 from Ralph Lane to Pesante Road will close one lane each direction between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • The closure is needed for crews to conduct work on the median barrier.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 183 at Tembladero Bridge:  July 1 – July 3
  • Nighttime bridge work on Highway 183 Tembladero Bridge will result in alternating lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Blackie Road Safety Improvement Project: July 1 – July 3
  • Roadway construction continues between Borromeo Drive to approximately one mile west of Borromeo Drive going to Castroville.
  • Blackie Rd. will be open to emergency vehicles, school buses, local residents and patrons of local businesses.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 30 minutes.

***UPCOMING TEMPORARY CLOSURE:  San Juan Road: July 8- 10***
  • San Juan Road will be closed to through traffic from just after the 76 Gas Station to Dunbarton Road from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 8 - July 10.
  • Crews will be doing drainage work and widening San Juan Road.
  • Travelers should detour to San Miguel Canyon Road.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.

  • Daytime work on the northbound on-ramo to Highway 101 at San Miguel Canyon Rd. will close one lane between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Crews will be repairing guardrail.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.

San Juan Road Project – Dunbarton Road South:  June 23 – June 28
  • Night work on Highway 101, between Dunbarton Rd. South and Rocks Rd. will result in single lane closures between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.

  • Daytime work on Highway 101 at San Juan Road will result in alternating lane closures between    7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  • Caltrans will conduct pavement and guardrail work from the Little Sur River Bridge to Hurricane Point between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 68 Sweeping:  June 18 and June 20
  • Daytime sweeping on Highway 68 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
Highway 68 Bridge Work:  June 16 - June 21
  • Nighttime work on El Toro Creek Bridge from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

  • Nighttime bridge work on Highway 101, from Alisal Rd to East Market St will result in alternating lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Highway 1 Closure at Pitkins Curve Bridge And Rockshed: June 10
  • Hwy 1 at Pitkins Curve will be fully closed from midnight on Sunday, June 9, until 6 am on Monday, June 10.
  • The full six-hour early morning closure is necessary to remove a temporary working platform near the rockshed.
  • Motorists should detour to Hwy. 68, U.S. Hwy. 101 to either Nacimiento-Fergusson Road or Hwy. 46

  • Caltrans will conduct pavement and guardrail work at the following locations.
    • Ventana Entrance to 4 miles south;
    • Little Sur River Bridge to Hurricane Point;
    • Garrapata Ridge Road to Garrapata Creek Bridge; and
    • Carmelite Monastery to Point Lobos St Reserve.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

  • Daytime work on Highway 1, from Salinas Road to the Santa Cruz County Line, will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.

Highway 101 between Salinas and Gonzales:  June 10 – June 14
  • Daytime work on Highway 101, from Abbott St to Alta St, will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Crews will be sealing cracked pavement.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Prunedale Improvement Project Ralph Lane - Pesante Road: June 10 – June 14
  • Night work on Highway 101, between Ralph Ln and at Pesante Rd, will result in alternating lane closures (as needed) between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Prunedale Improvement Project at Crazy Horse Canyon: June 10 – June 14
  • Night work continues between Mallory Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road from Monday, June 10, to Friday, June 14.
  • There will be alternating lane closures as needed between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • There will be no left turns from Crazy Horse Canyon Rd to Highway 101 South on Monday, June 10, between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
  • Crews will be moving equipment and removing bridge falsework.

San Juan Road Interchange: June 9 – June 14
·         Overnight work on Hwy 101, between Dunbarton Road and Cannon Road/Rocks Road, will result in lane closures between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Highway 156 at Castroville Blvd:  June 9
  • Crews will repair guardrail on Highway 156 near Castroville Blvd. on Sunday, June 9, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 8 minutes.
