Road and lane closures for August 5 - 12


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for the areas between Salinas and North Monterey County from Sunday, August 5, through Sunday, August 12, 2012– newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1: August 6 - 10
·   Night work on Hwy 1 at Ocean Ave in Carmel will close the #2 lane, bike lane, and sidewalk between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. from Monday, August 6, through Friday, August 10.
o    Crews will be working on the curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
o    Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 68: July 30 - September
·   Caltrans began grinding and paving a seven-mile section of Highway 68 from the Highway 1 interchange to SPCA Road on Monday, July 30.
o   Roadwork will be done during overnight hours and is expected to be completed this fall.
o   Roadwork hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 7 pm to 6 am; Fridays from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., and Sundays from 8 p.m. to midnight. 
o   In areas where the roadway is four lanes, at least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. 
o    Electronic message signs will be posted.
o    Motorists can expect 15-20 minute delays.

City of Salinas: August 5 – August
·   Underground utility work to prepare the 100-block of Main Street for the Taylor Fresh Foods Headquarters/mixed-use development will continue for the remainder of August. 
o    Salinas Street utility work will likely be completed the week of August 6,while the Gabilan Street underground utility work will continue until roughly August 17; at which time the Main Street utility underground work will commence, and take approximately one full week to complete (ending on or about August 24). Utility vault and box work will take another week to complete 
o    The Main Street portion of work will be done during evening hours (11 p.m. – 7 a.m.) in an attempt to expedite completion and minimize disruption to downtown businesses and traffic. 
o    The City and contractors appreciate the public’s patience during construction. 
o    Downtown businesses are open for business, and appreciate your continued patronage during construction.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Paving Blackie Road– August 6 
·   On Monday, August 6, Granite Construction will be paving Blackie Road at the intersection of Blackie Rd. and Prunedale South Road.
o    Work will be done during the day.
o    Motorists should expect delays in the area.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Bridge Work – August 6 – August 8  
·   Night work on Hwy 101 between Pesante Rd. and Blackie Rd. will close alternate lanes from Monday, August 6, through Wednesday, August 8, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
o    Crews will be working on the new Blackie Rd. overcrossing.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Crazy Horse Canyon Detour – August 6 – August 7  
·   On Tuesday, August 7, Caltrans will open up a new detour from Hwy 101 to Crazy Horse Canyon Rd.
o    The new detour, which is south of the current right turn for Crazy Horse Canyon Rd., will provide complete access to Crazy Horse Canyon.
o    The switch to the detour will take place very early on Tuesday morning, after overnight work with striping is completed.
o    Striping work will close one southbound lane between Echo Valley Road and Mallory Canyon Rd. between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.
o    The detour will allow construction crews to continue working on the new Crazy Horse Canyon interchange.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Temporary Closure of Reese Circle – July – August 
·   On Monday, July 9, Caltrans temporarily closed Reese Circle just west of Cross Rd., up to and including closure of access to Highway 101.
o    Reese Circle is expected to be closed through August 2012.
·         Granite Construction and MCM Construction, Caltrans’ contractors for the PIP, will be removing the pavement and installing a new box culvert to help with drainage in the area.
·         For those who use Reese Circle to access Hwy. 101, the detour will be to turn right at Cross Road, turn left on Pollock Lane, and then turn left on Pesante Road to get to Hwy 101.
o    Detour signs will be posted throughout the area.
o    During this period construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Prunedale Improvement Project: San Miguel Canyon Rd. and Hwy 101
·   Construction work on San Miguel Canyon Rd., near Prunedale North Rd. and the Prunedale Shopping Center began on Monday, June 25.  This work involves excavating the roadway to install new traffic signals, curbs, and sidewalks, and rebuild the roadway.
o    Motorists can expect delays of about 15 minutes in the area.
o    Work will be done during the day.
o    Businesses will be open, but access will change as work progresses.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Temporary Closure of Harrison Rd. Continues
·   On May 7 Caltrans closed Harrison Rd. – from Russell Rd. to Martines Rd.; and the intersection at North Main St. and Russell Rd. for approximately four months to all but local traffic and emergency response vehicles.

This closure is necessary to install new drainage systems, new signals, and rebuild the entire roadway. All businesses and places of worship along Harrison Rd. and North Main St. are open during this construction.

Construction will go through September 9; during this time:
·         Harrison Rd., a portion of North Main St., and a portion of Russell Rd. will be dirt and gravel;
·         Emergency response vehicles will have access at all times;
·         Local traffic, including those going to businesses in the area, will have access;
·         The speed limit in the construction area will be reduced to 25 M.P.H.;
·         There will be traffic delays of up to 20 minutes – especially along Harrison Rd.;
·         Water trucks will be used to keep dust down;
·         There will be construction noise during the day, with crews generally working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

San Juan Rd.: June 25 through August
·   Construction work on San Juan Road, between San Miguel Canyon and Dunbarton, began on Monday, June 25.
o    The roadway will receive a coat of hot asphalt-concrete mix.
o    Construction work that may affect traffic will be done 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.,
o    Motorists should expect delays of 10 to 20 minutes during those hours.
