Road and lane closures for Aug. 26 - Sept. 3


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for the areas between Salinas and North Monterey County from Sunday, August 26, through Monday, September 3, 2012– newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Prunedale Improvement Project: Paving on N. Main/Russell/Harrison continues
·      Granite Construction, Caltrans contractor for the Prunedale Improvement Project, began paving North Main Street, Russell Road, and Harrison Road on Tuesday, August 21.
·       Paving should be completed on September 4.
·       As the paving is going on
·         Harrison Rd., a portion of North Main St., and a portion of Russell Rd. will still   
        be considered to be construction zones;
·         Emergency response vehicles will have access at all times;
·         Local traffic, including those going to businesses in the area, will have 
        access;
·         The speed limit in the construction area will be reduced to 25 M.P.H.;
·         There will be traffic delays of up to 20 minutes – especially along Harrison 
        Rd.;
·         There will be construction noise during the day, with crews generally working from 
       7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Prunedale Improvement Project: San Miguel Canyon Rd. and Hwy 101
·      Construction work on San Miguel Canyon Rd., near Prunedale North Rd. and the Prunedale Shopping Center began on Monday, June 25.  This work involves excavating the roadway to install new traffic signals, curbs, and sidewalks, and rebuild the roadway.
o    Motorists can expect delays of about 15 minutes in the area.
o    Work will be done during the day.
o    Businesses will be open, but access will change as work progresses.

Highway 68: July 30 - September
·       Caltrans began grinding and paving a seven-mile section of Highway 68 from the Highway 1 interchange to SPCA Road on Monday, July 30.
o   Roadwork will be done during overnight hours and is expected to be completed this fall.
o   Roadwork hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 7 pm to 6 am; Fridays from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m., and Sundays from 8 p.m. to midnight. 
o   In areas where the roadway is four lanes, at least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. 
o    Electronic message signs will be posted.
o    Motorists can expect 15-20 minute delays.

Highway 1/Big Sur: August 26 – September 3
·      Caltrans will be conducting drainage cleaning along Hwy 1 near Pfeiffer Burns State Park and Torre Canyon Bridge, and the Pt. Sur Naval Facility and Little Sur River Bridge throughout the week.
o    Work hours are between 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.
o    Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

Highway 1 Bridge Work: August 27 – September 3
·      Bridge work on Hwy 1 will result in night time lane closures on Hwy 1 between Sand Dunes Drive and Del Monte Blvd./Neponset.
o    Work hours are from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
o    Motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

San Juan Rd.: June 25 through August
·      Construction work on San Juan Road, between San Miguel Canyon and Dunbarton, began on Monday, June 25.
o    The roadway will receive a coat of hot asphalt-concrete mix.
o    Construction work that may affect traffic will be done 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.,
o    Motorists should expect delays of 10 to 20 minutes during those hours.
