ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR DEC 1 - DEC 8


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, December 1, through Sunday, December 8, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Bixby Bridge:  Dec. 3 – Dec. 4
·         Bridge inspections at the Bixby Bridge on Tuesday Dec. 3 and Wednesday Dec. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast:  Dec. 2 – Dec. 6
  • Daytime drainage work along Highway 1 between the Rocky Creek Viaduct and Garrapata Ridge Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.     
Highway 68 – Monterey:  Dec. 5
  • Daytime drainage work on the northbound Highway 1 on ramp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 68 – Salinas:  Dec. 2 – Dec. 6
  • Daytime utility work on eastbound Highway 68 between San Joaquin Street and San Miguel Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.     
Highway 101 – Greenfield to Salinas: Dec. 2 – Dec. 5
·         Daytime vegetation spraying on Highway 101 between Underwood Road and West Laurel Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.     
Prunedale Improvement Project – San Miguel Canyon Road:  Dec. 2 – Dec. 5
  • Nighttime work continues on Highway 101 between Vierra Canyon Road and San Miguel Canyon Road from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Crews will be conducting various work items.

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR NOV 24 - DEC 1

Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, November 24, through Sunday, December 1, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – PITKINS CURVE BRIDGE AND ROCKSHED PROJECT:  Nov. 24 – Nov. 27
·   There will be three overnight closures on Sunday night Nov. 24, Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26 (opening on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 6 a.m.)
·   Work hours/closures are 10 pm to 6 a.m.
·   Only emergency vehicles will be allowed through.
·   Motorists can detour to Hwy. 46/Hwy. 101/Hwy. 68.

Highway 1 – Monterey:  Nov. 24 – Nov. 26
  • Night time On /Off Ramp work on Highway 1 continues at two locations:
    • Route 68 north and south bound ramps from Nov. 24 – Nov. 27
    • Aguajito Road  north and south bound ramps from Nov. 24 – Nov. 27
  • Work hours are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast:  Nov. 25
  • Daytime tree work along Highway 1 between the Castro Canyon Bridge and the north entrance to Nepenthe from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 1 – Seaside:  Nov. 25 – Nov. 26
  • Night time striping on Highway 1 at Sand Dunes Drive from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
Highway 1 – North of Marina:  Nov. 25 – Nov. 26
  • Night time striping on Highway 1 between Del Monte Ave and Molera Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
Highway 101 – Gonzales and Soledad:  Nov. 24 – Nov. 27
  • Daytime paving, drainage, and electrical work on Highway 101 from La Gloria Road to Arroyo Seco Road will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Night time paving and survey work on Highway 101 from La Gloria Road to Arroyo Seco Road will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
 Highway 101 – Market Street at Highway 101: Project Update
·   The East Market Street Improvements Phase I, (Carr Avenue to Merced Street) Project Continues
·   Current work consists of planting trees and traffic signal improvements at the East Market/Kern Street intersection. 
·   The final asphalt pavement layer is scheduled for December 4th and striping is scheduled for December 18, 2013. 
·   Plant establishment will continue for 60 days through the end of February.
·   There will also be a new signal coming to the intersection of Market Street and the 101 South exist, but that will not be until next year.

Road and lane closures for Nov. 17 - Nov. 24


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, November 17, through Sunday, November 24, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  Nov. 17 – Nov. 22  
  • There will be a crane set up on the southbound lane of Hwy. 1 at Rocky Creek to remove debris from the hillside below the viaduct on Wednesday, Nov. 20, Thursday, Nov.  21 and Friday Nov. 22 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • One way-reversing control with flaggers will be in effect.
  • There will be 10-minute delays as needed.
  • No other day or nighttime work or closures are scheduled for next week, from Sunday, Nov. 17 through Friday, Nov. 22.
Highway 1 – South Coast:  Nov. 18 – Nov. 22
  • Daytime slide removal along the Highway 1 between the San Luis Obispo County Line and Redwood Gulch from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

  • Daytime sweeping on Highway 101 between Airport Blvd and the San Benito County Line from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
 

***NOTE: RETAINING WALL PROJECT ON NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 17 INCLUDES LANE CLOSURE AND TRAFFIC SWITCH—SATURDAY NOV. 16 THROUGH NOV. 19***  

 
  • A ½ mile lane closure and a major traffic switch starting Saturday, Nov. 16 through Tuesday morning, Nov. 19. Traffic control is as follows:

    • The #2 (slow) lane of northbound Hwy. 17 will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 am until 7 pm for temporary guardrail removal.

    • One lane of northbound Hwy. 17 will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 7 pm until Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 am.

    • One lane of southbound Hwy. 17 will be closed from Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 pm until Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 am. During this time, motorists heading northbound will be crossed over the center median before proceeding on the southbound # 1 (fast) lane.

    • The #2 (slow) lane of northbound Hwy. 17 will be closed on Monday, Nov. 18 and Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 10 am until 3 pm for paving.

  • One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Electronic message boards, freeway service patrol and the CHP will be present during this closure to assist with traffic control.
  • Motorists can expect up to 30-minute delays.

Road and lane closures for Nov. 10 - Nov. 17


UPDATE: HIGHWAY 1 PITKINS CURVE BRIDGE AND ROCKSHED PROJECT NEARING COMPLETION
  • The Highway 1 Bridge and Rockshed project at Pitkins Curve is nearing completion, Caltrans officials announced on Friday, November 8.
  • The ¼ - mile project extends from just north of Limekiln Creek Bridge to south of Lucia, and includes a rockshed, a bridge, and a retaining wall.
  • The entire project is scheduled to be completed in January, weather permitting.
Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  Nov. 11 – Nov. 15  
  • There will skid testing for friction on the deck on the northbound lane of Hwy.1 at Rocky Creek on Thursday, Nov. 14 between 7 am and 5 pm.
  • There will be 10-minute delays as needed.
  • No other day or nighttime work or closures are scheduled for next week, from Sunday, Nov. 10 through Friday, Nov. 15.
Note: There will be no work on Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of the Veterans’ Day holiday.

NORTHBOUND HIGHWAY 17 RETAINING WALL PROJECT WILL INCLUDES LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC SWITCH—SATURDAY NOV. 16 THROUGH MONDAY NOV. 18


SANTA CRUZ COUNTY –The retaining wall project that began on Hwy. 17 near Scotts Valley just north of Glenwood Drive will include a ½ mile lane closure and a major traffic switch starting Saturday night, Nov. 16 through Monday morning, Nov. 18. Traffic control is as follows:

1) One lane of northbound Hwy. 17 will be closed on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 7 pm until Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 am.

2) One lane of southbound Hwy. 17 will be closed from Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 pm until Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 am. During this time, motorists heading northbound will be crossed over the center median before proceeding on the southbound # 1 (fast) lane.

3) NOTE: One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Electronic message boards, freeway service patrol and the CHP will be present during this closure to assist with traffic control. Motorists can expect up to 30-minute delays.


The roadwork being performed is part of the existing project to construct a retaining wall with concrete slab and barrier and pave with hot mix asphalt at this location. The project is expected to complete in the spring of 2015.

The contractor for this $2.8 million project is Condon-Johnson & Associates Inc. of Oakland, CA.

As always, Caltrans asks for the cooperation of motorists to drive carefully along the Highway 17 corridor.

Highway 1/Rocky Creek Viaduct Project:  Nov. 4 – Nov. 8  
  • Daytime roadwork on Highway 1 continues next week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 through Thursday, Nov. 7.
  • There will be no overnight work or overnight closures scheduled from Sunday, Nov. 3 through Thursday, Nov. 7.
  • The temporary signal has been removed.
Traffic will be stopped for 10 minutes at a time during daytime roadwork.

Note: There will be no work on Monday, Nov. 11 in observance of the Veterans’ Day holiday.

Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast:  Nov. 4 – Nov. 8

  • One-day striping operation on the westbound Highway 68 off-ramp between Fairgrounds Road and Highway 1 from9 a.m. 7- 2 p.m.

  • Daytime paving, drainage, and electrical work on Highway 101 from La Gloria Road to Arroyo Seco Road will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Prunedale Improvement Project – Multiple Locations:  Nov. 4 – Nov. 8
  • Nighttime work on Highway 101 in Prunedale will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
    • Locations are:
      • Vierra Canyon Road to San Miguel Canyon Road for Miscellaneous work.
      • Messick Road to Crazy Horse Canyon Road for Median Barrier work.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Prunedale Improvement Project – Espinosa Road:  Nov. 4 – Nov. 6
  • Daytime construction work on Espinosa Road will result will cause one way reversing traffic control between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays in both directions of Espinosa Road, and are advised to take alternate routes, if possible.
