ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR SEP 5 - SEP 11


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for the areas between Salinas and North Monterey County from Monday, September 5 through Sunday, September 11 - newest information is in red.


Highway 1/Salinas Road Project: September 2
·         Northbound and southbound traffic on HWY 1 will have access to Salinas Road again beginning at around midnight on Friday, September 2.
o    Drivers on Salinas Rd will be able to go either north or south on to the HWY 1 detour.
o    North and south bound drivers on the HWY 1 detour will be able to turn on to Salinas Rd.


Prunedale Improvement Project: September 5 – September 11
·         On Tuesday, September 6, Caltrans will close Blackie Road from Highway 101 to Borromeo Drive for approximately two months.
o    During construction there will be no entrance to Blackie Road from either Highway 101 or Prunedale South Road.  
o    Blackie Road at Prunedale South Road will be closed to all but emergency response vehicles. 
o    The closure is necessary to install a new box culvert that will go underneath Blackie Rd.

  • Tuesday, September 6 – Thursday, September 8, night work on HWY 101 at San Miguel Canyon between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. will close:
    • Two northbound lanes between Tustin and San Miguel Canyon
    • The northbound on ramp at San Miguel Canyon
    • The northbound off ramp at San Miguel Canyon
    • Two southbound lanes between San Miguel Canyon and Tustin
    • The southbound off ramp at San Miguel Canyon
    • The southbound on ramp at San Miguel Canyon

  • There is a nighttime traffic crossover scheduled on Highway 101 near the San Miguel Road flyover for either Wednesday, September 7, or Thursday, September 8.
    • The crossover will start at 9 p.m. and go to 5 a.m.
    • Traffic will be channeled to the other side of the highway, so crews can work safely overhead.
    • The crossover will be clearly marked for all traffic.
    • California Highway Patrol will be on site for this crossover.


·         Night work along  HWY 101 near Russell and Espinosa will also result in lane closures between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.:
o    One Northbound lane between Russell/Espinosa and Ralph Lane.
o    One Southbound lane between Ralph Lane and Russell/Espinosa.
o    The Northbound off-ramp at Russell/Espinosa
o    The Southbound off-ramp at Russell/Espinosa


·         Night work beginning at 12.01 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, along HWY 101 on near Blackie Road will close:
o    The northbound left turn at Blackie Road
o    The southbound right turn at Blackie Road



·         The Northbound HWY 101 on and off ramps at Russell/Espinosa will be closed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. until late September/early October, 2011.
o    Crews will be:
§  Widening and reconstructing North Main St. from Russell Rd to 1000 feet south of the Russell Rd/Main St. intersection;
§  Working on storm drainage systems and a traffic signal; and
§  Making improvements along Russell Rd. and Harrison Rd.
o    Work hours for this project will be from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
o    Flaggers will be in the area to direct traffic.


·         Cross Rd. in Prunedale is closed to through traffic for approximately six months; the road is open to residents and emergency responders.
o    Caltrans is removing the pavement, installing several new box culverts, and making improvements along Cross Rd. and Reese Circle.
o    Throughout this construction Cross Rd will be open for residents, but will be closed to through traffic.
o    Detour signs will be posted throughout the area.
o    During this period Granite Construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.


Highway 68: September 5 – September 11
·         Monterey County Public Works continues its work along HWY 68 and San Benancio, which will go on until December 2011. This work is being done during the day; drivers should be alert. Most work will be done behind the concrete barriers that are set up, but minor delays are possible.

There may be a lane closure on HWY 68 on Sep 7 and 8, at night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.




*UPCOMING PROJECT IN DOWNTOWN SALINAS BEGINS SEPTEMBER 12*
 A five-mile project to overlay Hwy. 68 from just west of River Road to Work Street in Salinas will begin Monday, September 12.
·         Work will consist of daytime lane and ramp closures from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Mondays through Thursdays; and from 8:30 am to 1 pm on Fridays.
·          Overnight work may also take place week between 6 pm and 7 am during the week.
·         Up to 10-minute delays are anticipated with the daytime closures. 
·         This project goes through downtown Salinas. There will be reduced or no parking in this construction zone due to micro-surfacing of the pavement.
