ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR AUG 21 - AUG 28

It's another busy week ahead, with regard to construction - here's the lowdown on the major scheduled road and lane closures for the areas between Salinas and North Monterey County from Sunday, August 21, through Sunday, August 28 (newest information is in red.):

Highway 101/Airport Boulevard Project: August 22 – August 25

·         Night work on HWY 101 will have southbound HWY 101 closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., with traffic detoured at Sanborn Rd. to Abbott St. on Monday, August 22.

·         Additional night work on HWY 101 will close one southbound lane between Sanborn Rd and Abbott St from August 23 – August 25; the lane closure will be from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

·         The Monday closure is to complete the bridge falsework removal; the lane closure is to remove the k-rail from the southbound onramp so it can be reopened.

Highway 1/Salinas Road Project: August 22 – August 28

·         Phase 2 of the Salinas Rd. Detour is scheduled to open to the public on the night of August 22. This detour will move northbound HWY 1 traffic on a detour road, along with the southbound traffic.
o    This means both northbound and southbound traffic on HWY 1 will not have access to Salinas Road and will have to use the posted Hwy 129 detour to access Salinas Road.
o    Salinas Road detours will be clearly marked with signs.
o    This detour is expected to be in place for 1 – 2 weeks

·         There will also be reverse traffic control on Hwy 1 between Moss Landing and Trafton Road on the night of the August 22.
o   Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

·         Upon completion of the second phase of the detour, both southbound and northbound traffic will have access to Salinas Road using the Salinas Road detour.
·         All detour durations are subject to construction progress.

Davis Road: August 23 – August 24

  • Monterey County Public Works will be striping along Davis Road August 23 – August 24.
    • The work will be done during the day, between 8:30 a.m. and to 4:30 p.m.
    • There will be some intermittent rolling closures.

Prunedale Improvement Project: August 22 – August 28

  • Night work will close one side of HWY 101 at San Miguel Canyon each night between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic will be crossed over to the opposite side of the highway.
    • This crossover is to allow for the construction of falsework on the San Miguel Canyon overcrossing.
    • Detour signs will clearly indicate the traffic crossover details.
    • CHP will be in the area during the crossovers.

·         Night work along  HWY 101 near Russell and Espinosa will also result in lane closures between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.:
o    One Northbound lane between Russell/Espinosa and Ralph Lane.
o    One Southbound lane between Ralph Lane and Russell/Espinosa.
o    The Northbound off-ramp at Russell/Espinosa
o    The Southbound off-ramp at Russell/Espinosa

  • PG&E will have one lane of Echo Valley Rd. closed at Hwy 101 on August 24 from 7 am to 3 p.m.
    • Only the southbound traffic (towards highway) will be affected and will be detoured to Tustin Rd.
    • Northbound traffic from HWY 101 will not be affected.
    • This closure is to install overhead wire across the highway.

  • There will also be a traffic break on HWY 101 of not more than 5 minutes scheduled for 10 a.m. on August 24.
    • This is to allow PG&E to pull wires over highway.

·         The Northbound HWY 101 on and off ramps at Russell/Espinosa will be closed between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. until late September/early October, 2011.

o    Work hours for this project will be from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
o    Flaggers will be in the area to direct traffic.

·         Cross Rd. in Prunedale is closed to through traffic for approximately six months; the road is open to residents and emergency responders.
o    Caltrans is removing the pavement, installing several new box culverts, and making improvements along Cross Rd. and Reese Circle.
o    Throughout this construction Cross Rd will be open for residents, but will be closed to through traffic.
§  Residents on the west side of the Pollack Rd. extension will access Cross Rd from Reese Circle.
§  Residents on the east side of the Pollack Rd. extension will access Cross Rd. by way of Pesante Rd.
o    Detour signs will be posted throughout the area.
