Highway 1 – Big Sur: July 22 – July 25
  • Daytime shoulder work along Highway 1 between the Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Ridge Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

  • Daytime pavement repair along Highway 1 between the Juan Higuera Creek Bridge and Molera Park Entrance from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Carmel: July 20 – July 25
  • Night time utility work along southbound Highway 1 between Stewart Place/Flanders Drive and Ocean Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 1 – Monterey: July 23
  • Daytime tree work will result in the temporary closure of the Soledad Drive off-ramp at southbound Highway 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 68 – Salinas: July 21 – July 23
  • Daytime utility work along eastbound Highway 68 / South Main Street between Monterey Street and Pajaro Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 101 – San Ardo: July 23 – July 25
  • Daytime crack and seal work along northbound Highway 101 between the San Bernardo overcrossing and the San Ardo undercrossing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: Espinosa Road: July 23 – July 25
  • Night time construction will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Espinosa Road and Ralph Lane from 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.  
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: Blackie Road: July 23 – July 25
  • Night time construction will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Blackie Road and Pesante Road from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: San Miguel Canyon Road: July 23 – July 25
  • Night time construction will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Vierra Canyon Road and Tustin Road from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 198 – San Lucas: July 21 – July 25
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 198 between the Fresno County Line and Highway 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR JULY 13 - JULY 20



Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, July 13, through Sunday, July 20, 2014 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Big Sur – Carmel: July 13 – July 18
  • Night time striping and markings replacement along Highway 1 at multiple locations from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • The locations are:
    • Sunday, July 13 - Carmel River Bridge to just north of Garrapata Creek Bridge
    • Monday, July 14 - Yankee Point Drive/Malpaso Rd. to just south of Hurricane Point
    • Tuesday, July 15 - Garrapata Creek Bridge to south of Molera Park Entrance
    • Wednesday, July 16 - South of Bixby Creek Bridge to Grimes Canyon
    • Thursday, July 17 - North of Molera Park Entrance to Grimes Canyon
  • Work hours are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Sundays
  • Work will result in reversing one-way traffic control.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Highway 1 –South Coast: July 15 – July 18
  • Daytime work along Highway 1 between Pacific Valley and Vicente Creek Bridge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Highway 1 – Big Sur: July 17 – July 18
  • Daytime shoulder work along Highway 1 between the Big Sur Maintenance Station and Garrapata Ridge Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Big Sur: July 15
  • Daytime pavement repair along Highway 1 between the Big Sur State Park Entrance and Hurricane Point from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Monterey: July 16
  • Daytime bridge work along southbound Highway 1 between Aguajito Road and Iris Canyon Road from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 68 – Salinas: July 16
  • Daytime utility work along westbound Highway 68 / South Main Street between San Joaquin Street and San Miguel Avenue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: July 14 – July 18
  • Night time construction on Highway 101 will result in the temporary closure of northbound Highway 101 at the Crazy Horse Canyon Road Overpass between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14.
    • Flaggers will be in place to control traffic and allow drivers to access Crazy Horse Canyon Road and Echo Valley Road during the highway closure.  
    • The lane closure is necessary for the first stage of highway paving. 
  • Night work will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Blackie Road/Reese Circle and Pesante Road between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Night work will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Vierra Canyon Road and Crazy Horse Canyon Road between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 198 – San Lucas: July 14 – July 18
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 198 between the Fresno County Line and Highway 25 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Castroville Boulevard: Castroville – Prunedale: July 14 – July 28
  • Daytime grinding and paving along Castroville Boulevard between Highway 156 and San Miguel Canyon Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • There will be one lane traffic control with pilot car for about 1 to 1.5 mile sections each day.
  • Motorists can expect delays and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.

  • Daytime drainage work and slide removal along Highway 1 between Wild Cattle Creek Bridge and Lucia from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Highway 1 – Carmel Highlands: July 9
  • Daytime shoulder work along Highway 1 between Granite Canyon Bridge and Spindrift Road (North) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 1 – Carmel Highlands: July 10
  • Daytime tree removal along Highway 1 between Highland Drive and Fern Canyon/Corona Rd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 101 – San Lucas: July 9 – July 10
  • Daytime sweeping on Highway 101 between the Rancho under crossing and Route 198 from 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – King City: July 7 – July 8
  • Daytime bridge work and sweeping on Highway 101 between Broadway and Jolon Road from 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – Chualar: July 7 – July 8
  • Daytime grinding operation on northbound Highway 101 between Main Street /Chualar Street and Payson Road / Grant Street from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Highway 101 – Salinas: July 8 – July 9
  • Daytime bridge work along northbound Highway 101 between Sanborn Road and John Street from 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – Prunedale Improvement Project: July 7 – July 11
  • Night work will temporally close the northbound San Miguel Canyon Road Highway 101 on-ramp from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7 and Tuesday, July 8.   
  • Night work will result in alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Vierra Canyon Road and Crazy Horse Canyon Road between 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Motorists should expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – San Juan Road Interchange: July 7 – July 11
  • Night work on Highway 101 will cause alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Dunbarton Road and Rocks / Cannon Road from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Night work will temporally close the northbound San Juan Road Highway 101 on-ramp from 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Northbound San Juan Road travelers should detour to Crazy Horse Canyon Road via Dunbarton Road.
  • The closures are needed for k-rail installation and shoulder work.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 156 – Castroville and Prunedale: July 7 and July 10
  • Daytime sweeping along Highway 156 between Highway 101 and Highway 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes
Highway 198 – San Lucas: July 7 – July 11
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 198 between the Fresno County Line and Highway 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
