Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, December 20 through Saturday, December 26, 2015 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Gorda to Ragged Point
  • A major retaining wall construction project will result in one-way signalized traffic control, 24/7 between Gorda and Ragged Point.
  • All local businesses along the coast will remain open during the roadwork. 
  • Motorists should expect daytime delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 1 – Lucia
  • A ½-mile project to construct a viaduct will result in one-way signalized traffic control, 24/7, 18 miles south of Big Sur near Lucia from south of Big Creek Bridge to south of Dolan Creek Bridge.
  • Up to ten minute holds may be in effect to ensure the safe delivery of materials.
  • All local businesses along the coast will remain open during the roadwork. 
  • Motorists should expect daytime delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Highway 1 – Big Sur: December 21 – December 23
  • Bridge work on Highway 1 at Mill Creek Bridge and Castro Canyon Bridge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Guardrail work at two locations along Highway 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The locations are:
    • Hot Springs Creek Bridge to Fullers Point
    • Point Sur Naval Station to Little Sur River Bridge
Highway 1 – Carmel Highlands: December 21 – December 23
  • Bridge work along Highway 1 at Mal Paso Creek Bridge from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Highway 1 – Monterey to Marina: December 20 – December 23
  • Night time grinding along Highway 1 between Sloat Avenue and Lake Drive from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
PG&E Gas Line Replacement Project – Highway 68
  • Gas line replacement work will result in night time lane closures along eastbound and westbound Highway 68 between Olmstead Road and Josselyn Canyon Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
PG&E Casing Removal Project – East Blanco Road
·         Removal of casing in the eastbound lanes of East Blanco Road between South Main Street and Abbott Street.
·         One lane will be closed during construction from November 30 – December 23.
·         Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Salinas: Hitchcock Road Traffic Signal Project
  • A project to install traffic signals and realign a portion of Highway 68 at Hitchcock Road continues.
  • The #2 (right) lane of westbound Hwy. 68 will be closed at this location Monday through Thursday from 8 am until 6 pm and from 8 am until 4 pm on Fridays.
  • Hitchcock Road will remain open at Davis Road with access maintained for local residents.
  • Motorists can expect delays not too exceed ten minutes.

  • Daytime grinding along southbound Highway 101 between Route 146 and Arroyo Seco Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
PG&E Gas Line Replacement Project – Highway 68
  • Gas line replacement work will result in night time lane closures along eastbound and westbound Highway 68 between Olmstead Road and Josselyn Canyon Road from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
