Road and lane closures for July 8 - 15
Here are the major scheduled
road and lane closures for the areas between Salinas and North Monterey
County from Sunday, July 8, through
Sunday, July 15, 2012– newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.
Highway 1 Carmel
to Cambria: Overnight Closures July 9 – July 12
- Night work on Highway 1 at Pitkins/Rain Rocks (25 miles
south of Big Sur) will completely close the road between the hours of 9
p.m. and 6 a.m. for four nights, beginning Monday, July 9, and going
through Thursday, July 12.
- Electronic message signs will be posted
at each end of the closure and at three other locations alerting
motorists of the closure ahead.
- Emergency vehicles will be allowed through, although it may
involve up to 30-minute delays.
- Motorists are advised to use highways 46, 101 and 68 as
alternate routes around the closure.
- All businesses, hotels and campgrounds
in the Big Sur area remain open and accessible.
Prunedale Improvement Project: Nightime Lane
Closure on Hwy 101 – July 9 and 10
·
Night work on Hwy 101, between Boronda Road and
Espinosa Rd., will close alternating lanes on Monday, July 9, and Tuesday, July
10, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
o
Roadwork will involve restriping the
lanes
o
Electronic message signs will be
posted to alert motorists of closures.
o
CHP will be on site to assist with
traffic control.
o
Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.
Prunedale
Improvement Project: Paving Cross Rd – July 7
·
Cross Rd. is scheduled to be re-paved on Saturday,
July 7.
o
Work hours are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
o
Only residents of Cross Rd. will be allowed to enter the
work area.
o
No thru traffic will be allowed.
o
Motorists can expect delays of up to
15 minutes.
Prunedale
Improvement Project: Temporary Closure of Reese Circle – July 9
·
On Monday, July 9, Caltrans will temporarily close
Reese Circle just west of Cross Rd., up to and including closure of access to
Highway 101.
o Reese Circle is
expected to be closed through August 2012.
·
Granite Construction
and MCM Construction, Caltrans’ contractors for the PIP, will be removing the
pavement and installing a new box culvert to help with drainage in the area.
·
For those who use Reese Circle to access Hwy. 101, the detour will be to
turn right at Cross Road, turn left on Pollock Lane, and then turn left on
Pesante Road to get to Hwy 101.
o
Detour signs will be
posted throughout the area.
o
During this period
construction crews will be working from
7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
Prunedale
Improvement Project: San Miguel Canyon Rd. and Hwy 101
·
Construction work on San Miguel Canyon Rd., near Prunedale
North Rd. and the Prunedale Shopping Center began on Monday, June 25. This work involves excavating the roadway to
install new traffic signals, curbs, and sidewalks, and rebuild the roadway.
o
Motorists can expect delays
of about 15 minutes in the area.
o
Work will be done during the day.
o
Businesses will be open, but access will change as work progresses.

Closure of Harrison Rd. Continues
·
On May 7 Caltrans closed Harrison Rd. – from Russell Rd. to Martines
Rd.; and the intersection at North Main St. and Russell Rd. for approximately
four months to all but local traffic and emergency response vehicles.
This closure is
necessary to install new drainage systems, new signals, and rebuild the entire
roadway. All businesses and places of worship
along Harrison Rd. and North Main St. are open during this construction.
Construction
will go through September 9; during this time:

Harrison Rd., a portion of North Main St., and a
portion of Russell Rd. will be dirt and gravel;
·
Emergency response vehicles will have access at all
times;
·
Local traffic, including those going to businesses
in the area, will have access;
·
The speed limit in the construction
area will be reduced to 25 M.P.H.;
·
There will be traffic delays of up to 20 minutes –
especially along Harrison Rd.;
·
Water trucks will be used to keep
dust down;
·
There will be construction noise
during the day, with crews generally working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
San Juan Rd.: June
25 through August
·
Construction work on
San Juan Road, between San Miguel Canyon and Dunbarton, will begin on Monday, June
25.
o
The roadway will
receive a coat of hot asphalt-concrete mix.
o
Construction work that
may affect traffic will be done 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.,

Closure will be on the #2 (slow)
lane on northbound Hwy 101
o
Roadwork will involve safely
removing three eucalyptus trees
o

posted to alert motorists of closures.
o

in the final stages of preparing the road for paving.
o Cross Rd. has been closed to through traffic for
approximately three months; the road is open to residents and emergency
responders.
o
Residents can use
Pollock Lane to access Pesante Rd. and Hwy 101.
o
During construction

MONTEREY COUNTY – Caltrans will conduct daytime closures on northbound US Highway 101 #2 (slow) lane at two locations:

- Thursday, June
28 from 8:30 am to 1 pm
- Closure
of the #2 (slow) lane on northbound Hwy. 101
- Work
conducted will involve shoulder and drive-way repair

Work hours are from 8
am to 4 pm, Monday through Thursday, and until 12 pm on Friday.
o
One-way traffic
control by flagging and pilot car will be implemented at all times during this
roadwork.
Prunedale Improvement Project: June 18 –
June 20
·
Night work on Hwy 101, between Mallory Canyon and
Crazy Horse Canyon., will close one north bound lane from Monday, June 18,
through Wednesday, June 20. The lane closure will be between the hours of 8:30
p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
