ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR DEC 22 - DEC 29


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, December 22, through Sunday, December 29, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Near Lucia:  Dec. 23 (tentative)
  • Crews will begin the installation of a temporary traffic signal and guardrail on Highway 1, just north of Big Creek Bridge near Lucia on Monday, Dec. 23.
  • There will be one-way flagging control from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays.
  • The installation could take up to three weeks to complete.
  • Once the temporary guardrail and traffic signal are installed, the roadway will have signalized reversing one-way traffic control 24 hours per day.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 1 – Big Sur:  Dec. 23, 26, and 27
  • Daytime drainage work along Highway 1 between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • No work will be conducted on Dec. 24 or 25.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 68 – Salinas:  Dec. 23
  • Daytime tree work on eastbound Highway 68 between Reservation Road and Salinas River Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

Transportation Agency for Monterey County office will be closed in observance of winter recess December 23, 2013 through December 30, 2013.

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR DEC 15 - DEC 22


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, December 15, through Sunday, December 22, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Big Sur:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Daytime drainage work along Highway 1 between Lime Creek Bridge and Garrapata Creek Bridge from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 1 – Big Sur Coast:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Daytime pavement work along Highway 1 between the Point Sur Naval Facility and Hurricane Point from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 68 – Salinas:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Daytime utility work on eastbound Highway 68 between San Joaquin Street and San Miguel Avenue in Salinas from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.     
Highway 101 – Greenfield:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Daytime crack and seal work on northbound Highway 101 from Thorne Road to Harden Farms Road 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – Gonzales and Soledad:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Daytime paving, drainage, and electrical work on Highway 101 from La Gloria Road to Arroyo Seco Road will result in alternating lane and ramp closures—northbound and southbound—between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Prunedale Improvement Project – San Miguel Canyon Road:  Dec. 16 – Dec. 20
  • Nighttime drainage work continues on northbound Highway 101 between and San Miguel Canyon Road and Messick Road North with alternating lane closures from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  •  Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
San Juan Road Interchange Project:  Dec. 18
  • Daytime striping on northbound Highway 101 from Dunbarton Road (South) to Cannon/Rocks Road 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Highway 156 – Prunedale:  Dec. 17
  • Daytime paving work on Highway 156 between Cathedral Oak Road and Simon Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FOR DEC 8 - DEC 15


Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, December 8, through Sunday, December 15, 2013 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 – Big Sur:  Dec. 9 – Dec. 12
·         Four days of bridge inspections between Willow Springs and Big Sur at the following locations:

o    Monday: Little Sur River Bridge (four miles south of Rocky Creek Bridge).
o    Tuesday: Big Creek Bridge (five miles north of Lucia) Lime Creek Bridge, (south of the Esalen Institute.
o    Wednesday: Lime Creek Bridge (if not completed on Tuesday). Dolan Creek Bridge (just south of Lime Creek Bridge, eight miles north of Lucia). Vicente Creek Bridge (three miles north of Lucia).
o    Thursday:  Wild Cattle Creek Bridge (four miles south of Limekiln/Pitkins). Kirk Creek Bridge (two miles south of Limekiln/Pitkins).
·         Roadwork hours are from 8 am to 2:30 pm and will include one-way reversing traffic control with flaggers. 
·         Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes

  • Daytime tree work on the northbound Highway 1 Fremont Street off ramp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.     
Highway 1 – Seaside:  Dec. 10 – Dec. 11
  • Daytime bridge work on southbound Highway 1 between Route 218 and Tioga Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.  
Highway 68 – Salinas:  Dec. 9 – Dec. 13
  • Daytime utility work on eastbound Highway 68 between San Joaquin Street and San Miguel Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.     
Highway 101 – Greenfield to Soledad: Dec. 10 – Dec. 12
·       Daytime drilling work on Highway 101 between Hudson Road and Arroyo Seco Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.

  • Night time paving on Highway 101 from La Gloria Road to Arroyo Seco Road will result in alternating lane closures—northbound and southbound—between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 101 – Salinas:  Dec. 10 – Dec. 12
  • Daytime paving work on the southbound Highway 101 East Market Street off ramp from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 5 minutes.
Prunedale Improvement Project – San Miguel Canyon Road:  Dec. 10 – Dec. 13
  • Daytime survey work will close the number one (slow) lane of northbound Highway 101 between Messick Road South and Tustin Road between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 15 minutes.

  • Nighttime drainage work continues on Highway 101 between and San Miguel Canyon Road and Messick Road North with alternating lane closures from 7:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  •  Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
Highway 156 – Prunedale:  Dec. 10 – Dec. 12
  • Daytime paving work on Highway 156 between Cathedral Oak Road and Simonville from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Motorists can expect delays of approximately 10 minutes.
