REMINDER: CONSTRUCTION WILL PERMANENTLY CLOSE ACCESS BETWEEN US 101 AND ECHO VALLEY ROAD ON JULY 15

On Monday, July 15, Granite Construction and MCM Construction, Caltrans’ contractors for the US 101 Prunedale Improvement Project, will cul-de-sac Echo Valley Road at US 101, permanently eliminating direct access between US 101 and Echo Valley Road. This change was originally scheduled for July 8; the date was moved due to construction delays.

The good news is that this closure will allow construction work on the Crazy Horse Canyon Interchange to be completed as early as September; months ahead of schedule. In the meantime, though, it will mean out-of-direction travel for area residents and visitors, making getting to and from residences and businesses near the US 101/Echo Valley Road intersection more difficult.

  • To access US 101 from Echo Valley Road drivers will need to take Echo Valley Road to Tustin Rd., turn left on Tustin Rd., and then turn on to US 101.

  • To get from southbound US 101 to Echo Valley Road, drivers will need to exit at San Miguel Canyon Rd., turn right on San Miguel Canyon Rd., and follow it to Echo Valley Road.

  • To get from northbound US 101 to Echo Valley Road drivers will need to exit at San Miguel Canyon Rd., turn left on San Miguel Canyon Rd., and follow it to Echo Valley Road.

This accelerated construction is necessary to complete the new Crazy Horse Canyon Interchange before the rainy season begins. Closing off Echo Valley Road at this point will allow for faster construction of the new southbound US-101 off-ramp; once completed, the new Crazy Horse Canyon Interchange will eliminate left turns across US-101 in this area, provide easier access to and from Echo Valley Rd., and increase safety throughout the corridor.
